Daschle Wants Bankruptcy Conferees Appointed Soon
Senate Majority Leader Daschle reiterated his desire Tuesday to see conferees appointed this week on the pending bankruptcy reform legislation.

Daschle had said last week that he would like to see conferees named by early this week, although he had appeared to be operating under the

assumption that the Senate's organizational structure would be in place by now. A Daschle spokeswoman was not available to comment, but several sources said

it appears impossible for the Senate to formally name conferees until after the Senate organizes itself.  Moreover, Senate rules require consent of all its members to go to conference, and Sen. Paul Wellstone, D-Minn., already has said he will filibuster the motion.
